Candle Care & Burning Tips

Proper Candle Burning Tips

Get the cleanest, safest, and longest burn from your Dean & Dean candle.

1. Trim Your Wick Before Every Burn

Always trim the wick to ¼ inch before lighting.
This prevents soot, mushrooming, and oversized flames — giving you a cleaner, longer burn.

2. Let the First Burn Fully Melt to the Edges

On the first burn, allow the melted wax to reach the edges of the container.
This helps prevent tunnelling and ensures an even burn every time.

3. Burn in 2-3 Hour Sessions

For best performance, burn for no more than 4 hours at a time.
Longer burns can cause the jar to overheat or the flame to get too tall.

4. Keep Your Candle Away From Drafts

Avoid placing your candle near open windows, fans, heaters, or AC vents.
Drafts can cause uneven burning, flickering, and soot buildup.

5. Never Leave a Candle Unattended

Always burn within sight and keep away from children, pets, and anything flammable.

6. Keep the Wax Pool Clean

Make sure the melted wax is free from wick trimmings, matches, or dust to avoid flaring and soot.

7. Extinguish With Care

Use a candle snuffer or gently dip the wick into the melted wax and lift it back up.
This helps eliminate smoke and keeps the wick centered.

8. Stop Burning When ½ Inch of Wax Remains

Once the candle reaches the last ½ inch of wax, it’s time to retire it.
This prevents overheating the container and keeps things safe.
